What a game! Braves down Giants 1-0

Chipper was all the offense the Braves' pitchers needed last night

After four, 1-run games during last season’s National League Division Series between the Braves and Giants (many called it the best series of the 2010 playoffs), the Braves took 6 of 7 games during the 2011 regular season series against the Champs, including a 3-game sweep in San Francisco. Last night, Will and I ventured down to Turner Field to see the Giants live for the first time since the 2010 LDS. While the crowd wasn’t as rowdy or large as the 50,000-plus fans that were there last fall, it was quite the memorable game. Mike Minor and Tim Lincecum dueled for much of the game, with Lincecum making only one mistake to Chipper, a solo home run to right field. That mistake would prove costly as the Giants fell to the Braves, 1-0.

Being a huge Atlanta Braves fan and considering Turner Field my second home, there’s nothing like going home after a game like that. Every little aspect feels perfect, even with the lack of offense. It doesn’t matter. Your team won, beating one of the top pitchers in the league on the backs of great pitching and a home run from one of the all-time greatest switch hitters. Sure, I could’ve watched last night’s game on TV and saved a few bucks, but seeing a game like that in person creates a euphoric atmosphere that’s only topped when witnessing a playoff win. With that win, the Braves now have a 6-game lead in the NL Wild Card and looked poised to make a run at the playoffs down the stretch. One can only hope this season tops last.

Great game and tons of fun (plus it was Dan Uggla bobble head night!). Can’t wait for yet another trip to the Ted down the stretch.

In a side note, Will and I are going to try and make it back to Montgomery this Sunday to make up for the rainout we experienced a couple of weeks back. Wish us luck….

Looks likes a sportswriter from the new “old” school is back! Maybe the next Red Barber. Way to go RFTHT.
